A Poem about What I Believe

In case anyone is wondering, let this poem be the “What I Believe”/ “Beliefs” page of this blog.

I believe
in The Word of God, The Bible.
The whole thing,
from Genesis to Revelation–
It is the Whole Word of God,
Needing nothing more,
not anything less.
And it is not according to man’s interpretation–
No, it was written through prophets, carried along by God Himself (2 Peter 1:21).

As such,
It is the infallible Word of God.

I believe in the God who created this Bible;
Created all things, actually– in Christ it all was made (Genesis 1:1; Colossians 1:15-16).
He, this God, is Three-In-One, The Perfect Trinity,
The Alpha and the Omega,
The Beginning and the End (Matthew 28:19; Revelation 22:13).

He, God, is Creative, Relational and Majestic,
Love and Justice perfectly mixed (Genesis 1:1; Genesis 1:26; Psalm 8:9; 1 John 4:8; Hebrews 6:10).
Mankind, created in His Very Image (Genesis 1:27),
Was create to bear these characteristics
of Perfect Love and of Justice
as well (Genesis 1:27; Micah 6:8).

But I believe that mankind chose wrong:
They chose to try what would satisfy “only for a season.”
Eating the fruit, we fell;
fell into a place without such Perfection,
Without meaning, without Direction,
Because we had decided to pursue these things
Without the Creator of Them– of Us (Genesis 3).

This fallen state of humanity– shattered and useless– is a mess.
We are marred Image-Bearers, desperately separated from the Pure, Holy King.

But the story does not end there.

No, not at all–
When we fell,
and When we fall,
God still pursues us.
With such a Love, it is crazy to think of
The way He bent down (Psalm 116:2),
showed us around, and how to come to Him before Christ (Exodus 19-25).

And then He arrived.
One Christmas night,
wrapped in fragile flesh
when there was still blood on our hands
(from killing our brothers,
from sacrificing rams)
And said,
“Here I am, It was written about me in the scroll” (Genesis 4:8; Leviticus 16; Luke 2:6-7; Hebrews 10:7).

I believe in the God-Man
Who said “Here I am.”
The One prophesied about–
Jesus Christ (Zechariah 9:9).
The Son of God, Second part of the trinity,
Fully man and Fully God.
Jesus Christ,
As Paul puts it,
“…did not consider equality with God
something to be used to his own advantage;
rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness”
(Philippians 2:6-7).

But Jesus Christ
Did not just condescend
to be a friend, a guru, or even a Prophet.
He came to be a sinless lamb–
The Great “I Am” Died to set me free (Mark 8:29; Revelations 5:5-6; Philippians 2:8)
This, I believe.

This King? Jesus?
He is coming again (Philippians 2:9).
He’s coming again,
to take His Bride with Him,
and then to come as the Conquering King (1 Thessalonians 4:17-18; Revelation 20:1-6; Titus 2:13)– To prove that He is the King of Everything (Revelation 5).

Jesus’ Word will hold true– humanity does not (Matthew 24:35). And His Word?
It is to be read, to be taken in, to be engaged with, daily (2 Timothy 2:15).
This is what this blog aims to do:
To express these things in a beautiful way,
and to enjoy doing it.

How about you? What do you believe?
